Anna Claybourne: Books

Back to home page

This page lists the books I've written, co-written, contributed to and edited*. I specialise mainly in science and natural history books for the 6-12 age group, but I've also done retellings of myths and legends, books about ghosts, art and craft-type books and biographies, among others.

Scroll down to look at everything, or use the links to take you to the right section.

*Please note when linking to Amazon that they are sometimes wrong about authorship. They list some of my books as being by other authors, while some other authors' books are listed as being by me. This happens because Amazon often get their information from advance briefs from the publishers, and these are often sent out before authors have been allocated. So just ignore them ~ the info here is correct.

Giant Panda
by Anna Claybourne
Heinemann Library, 2004, 48pp

One of the Animals Under Threat series, this focuses on why the giant panda is endangered and what's being done to save it - but it's also a useful general introduction. Not that cuteness should be a reason for saving species, but there are so many cute pics in this book! I don't usually go for sweet fluffy mammals, but even I can't resist the photo of four pairs of panda twins being cuddled by their human carers.

Ants and Termites
by Anna Claybourne
Franklin Watts, 2004, 32pp

The Awesome Bugs series, started in 2003, returns with three even more awesome titles on creepy-crawlies for ages 6 and up. Ants and termites are really mindblowing. Ants can strip whole villages bare, remember the way through mazes and build nests and bridges using their own bodies.

Like all the Awesome Bugs books, it includes some games and quizzes too.

1000 Facts About Sharks
by Anna Claybourne
Miles Kelly Publishing, 2004, 224pp

A brain-boggling 224 pages stuffed with shark facts and brilliant photos and illustrations (no squeamishness spared! Pics of horrific shark-related injuries are included!). At the same time, the book tells the truth about sharks - they are not deliberately vicious human-hunters, and actually pose far less threat to us than hippos or crocs do - or, of course, than we pose to them. I went a bit shark-mad writing this and now have to be stopped from going on about sharks at dinner parties.
